I’m Emily, a former registrar turned independent celebrant, creating personal ceremonies for couples who want their ceremony to be every bit as memorable as the rest of their day.

A registrar can legally marry you in a licensed venue, using a script fixed by law, in a slot booked between other people’s weddings. That works perfectly well for some couples. And I should know, because I did it for 5 years.
A celebrant ceremony works differently. You can have it in a field, on a beach, in your parent’s back garden, or at that licensed venue you’ve already fallen hard for. You can walk in together, you can involve your children, your parents, your dog. You can be funny, you can be serious, you can say whatever you like because by that point, I’m not a stranger, I’m someone you have come to know over the months of planning your ceremony.

Why me?
I have spent my whole working life at the formal end of other people’s biggest days.
First as a family solicitor, then as a registrar. Between them, that is a lot of time spent watching how people behave during the moments that matter most to them, and learning how to hold a room steady whilst that happens.
I know how to work with a venue, run to time, calm a shaking hand, and keep going when the music cuts out or the ring box won’t open. None of that is the difficult part.
The difficult part is the writing, and that is the part I left to come and do properly. Your ceremony is written from scratch, by me, about you. You see every draft and approve every word, unless you would rather be surprised, which some couples very much would.

Alongside this experience, I have completed professional celebrant training with The Academy of Modern Celebrancy and I continue to access ongoing support, training, and resources through the Academy, helping me provide every couple with a high-quality, personalised service.
I am also a member of the Association of Independent Celebrants, which provides professional support, continuing professional development, and my celebrant insurance.
